The Dandy Warhols and The Black Angels have announced a co-headline tour of the UK and Europe for September and October this year. Tickets on sale now from the band’s website here.
The tour follows the release of The Dandy Warhols’ acclaimed new album ROCKMAKER which birthed a selection of very special singles including the buzz-heavy raw punk of ‘The Summer of Hate‘, ‘Danzig With Myself’ which featured Pixies’ Frank Black on guitar, the acid-rock of ‘I’d Like To Help You With Your Problem‘ featuring Slash, and the shadowy obsessiveness of ‘I Will Never Stop Loving You‘ featuring Debbie Harry. Listen to ROCKMAKER in full here.
For psych-rock legends The Black Angels, their best music has always reflected a wide-screen view of the world back at us, helping distil the universal into something far more personal. Since forming in Austin in 2004, The Black Angels have become standard-bearers for modern psych-rock that does exactly that, which is one of many reasons why the group’s latest album, Wilderness of Mirrors, feels so aptly named. More about new album ROCKMAKER
“A cracking collection of lively and snarky Power Pop tunes”
The Arts Desk ★★★★
“Rockmaker is an experience of the addictive kind, a fitting reminder of what’s terrific about the Portland band” – Clash
“A rambunctious rock record with gnarled guitars and unexpected industrial flourishes” – Mojo
“The most quintessential ’90s band of them all prove they still know how to rock with the best of them” – Music OMH ★★★★
“Courtney Taylor-Taylor and co return to their snarky sweet spot” – Uncut
“A burst of hypnotic, multi-faceted alt-rock” – Whynow
Seeing a recent dearth of records rife with “heavy raw punk and metal guitar riffs,” The Dandy Warhols made one of their own. What they ended up with is an album that The Arts STL describes as “a kaleidoscope of sound and style as only The Dandy Warhols can bring with their infectious and psychedelic vibes that can’t be pigeonholed into a single genre, so don’t even try.” The Spill Magazine lauds, “ROCKMAKER embodies a sonic evolution for The Dandy Warhols, characterized by a deliberate emphasis on guitar riffs over chords and melodies.” Vanyaland adds, “The Dandy Warhols have never been ones to fall in step, so it’s little surprise that their new LP ROCKMAKER doesn’t necessarily meet or exceed expectations as much as set its own bar.” Downtown Los Angeles praised, “Combining psych-rock, shoegaze, power pop, synth pop, and more with the cheeky detachment of their pop-art namesake, the Dandy Warhols are equally skilled at heady reveries and satirical pop.”
The Dandy Warhols is Courtney Taylor-Taylor (vocals, guitar), Peter Holmström (guitar, keyboards), Zia McCabe (keyboard, bass, percussion), and Brent DeBoer (drums, backing vocals). ROCKMAKER is out now via Sunset Blvd and was produced by Peter Holmström and Courtney Taylor-Taylor.
