APRIL 2024 UK TOUR CONFIRMED

COLORS SESSION LIVE NOW HERE

As she builds towards the October 20th release of her eagerly anticipated debut album ‘SANTHOSAM’, Priya Ragu has earned a fresh surge of tastemaker support following the singles ‘Vacation’ and ‘Easy’. Both tracks were premiered as Radio 1’s Hottest Records.

Priya is now poised to keep her momentum at fever pitch as she unveils her brand new single ‘Black Goose’.

‘Black Goose’ was written in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020. It is ablaze with anger, solidarity and clattering rhythms provided by the dholak and the tabla as Priya chants, “Officer don’t shoot, I got so much shit to do,” before she implores the world to stand-up to such oppression: “Don’t you bring us down, rise up!” While ‘Black Goose’ stands out on its own merits, it takes on a greater power within the ‘SANTHOSAM’ album as it leads straight into ‘Let Me Breathe (Reprise)’, a spiritual call for freedom, emancipation and peace.

Priya says, “It is 2023 and we are crying and protesting about the same damn thing – we are screaming injustice as the seasons pass by. The people are injected with fear. The media is playing us against each other. The ruthless killing of innocent black people hurts our souls. As Tamil people who had to flee their home due to genocide, we feel their pain and we stand with them as we keep singing these songs, as we keep dancing together until we celebrate justice and freedom for all of us.”

Priya also recently recorded both ‘Black Goose’ and ‘Let Me Breathe’ for her debut COLORS performance – watchHERE.

‘SANTHOSAM’ (the Tamilword for happiness) is a standout dynamic debut album which takes Priya’s signature raguwavy sound – simmering R&B, masterful pop hooks, earthy soulful vocals, dance beats, and the warm tabla rhythms, and spiralling melodics of Tamil music – to even more adventurous heights. Defined by  hercontagiously positive spirit, it pulsates with gorgeous varied musical textures and urgent political themes. Once again crafted in collaboration with her brother and producer Japhna Gold, it’s an album that originates from Priya’s quest for self-discovery.

The album sees Priya fulfilling the limitless potential that she first showed with her vibrant mixtape ‘damnshestamil’. It led to a flurry of achievements for Priya, including a BBC Sound Poll nomination; breaking artist accolades from MTV, Amazon Music, Spotify, VEVO and Deezer; ongoing support from Radio 1; and a show-stealing TV debut on ‘Later… with Jools Holland’. She flourished in the live arena too, with sold-out headline shows in London, New York and Los Angeles, several gigs as special guests to Jungle, plus festival dates stretching everywhere from SXSW and Primavera to the Montreux Jazz Festival.

‘SANTHOSAM’ is available to pre-order or pre-save HERE. Priya’s official store offers album bundles which compile your choice of vinyl or CD along with a signed artcard as well as options for new merch designs.
