Review – Healthy Junkies

The Crofters Rights, March 23rd 2022

I’ve been looking to catch HJ for quite some time. So to do so as part of The Lips Can Kill tour was an added bonus.

The purest mix of trashy punk and grunge that’ll you’ll find.Vocalist @ninacourson pirouettes across the stage like a demonic ballerina, contouring into inhuman shapes as she delivers sumptuous vocals to the bands gothic rock action.

Full of bounce and energy the band take us on a twisted set of 7 songs. And getting to see Phil Honey-Jones (guitar) do his thing that up close & personal was a genuine treat.

It’s a set that pays homage to just how active & consistent this band have been over the last decade.  With a immeasurable back catalogue to draw on they could play an entirely different set every night. So hearing “This is not a suicide” ,  “I don’t give a damn” and “Runaway Devil” live for the first time was a proper kick. And the crowd whooped and danced along for first chord to last.

By the time the London based foursome were done with us the room had taken on the feel of a Swedish sauna. Leaving us all a beautifully, happy, sweaty mess.

Make sure you catch these guys live as that’s where this band truly come to life.
