Review – Tokyo Taboo

The Crofters Rights, 23rd March 2022

The band responsible for one of my favourite albums of the past five years!

Live! For the first time! Would expectation meet reality?

Oh fuck yes it did!!!

Trying to shoot whilst,  trying to dodge @dollydaggerzdancer high kicks & sing along at the top of my lungs was quite the multitask, but I managed it.

TT sounding every bit as good live as the album I fell in love with. Treated to perfect renditions of “Emotional Suicide”, “Whiskey” & “Self Sabotage” as Dolly & Mickey get into their stride.

Tokyo Taboo are a vibrant, vocal, riff factory that just happen to bring one of the best stage performance you’ll ever see to the party as well. Quite how Dolly has the dexterity to pivot on the pole AND hit the vocal at the same time is quite honestly mind blowing.

Standing on the platform like a Barbie from Toy Story that’s dropped acid, whilst Mickey literally bounces around the stage driving the dirtiest of riffs is an assault on all the senses in the best possible way.

“N.A.R.C.I.S.M” might have been screamed louder by me than Dolly herself judging by the clip on my camera, but that’s what TT can do. They are electric performers that foster a superb atmosphere.

We didn’t get one of my fav tracks on the album “Drowning” , but that’s ok as the tempo for the whole evening was positive & upbeat so it was the correct decision, but the finale of “No Pleasure, Only Pain” was the final tick in the box for me.

Five years waiting to see this band, play these tracks live. And it was utterly worth the wait.
