Review – Spite

SWX, Bristol – 8th November 2022

Spite are the definition of “walk in, F shit up, leave…”

If you’re playing your first gig in Bristol, on your first tour in the UK you wanna leave an impression. And boy did Spite do that.

The hardcore/deathcore/downtempo band from California, known for their heavy riffs and crazy energy swept through SWX like a glorious, metal wrecking ball.

Rolling up as part of this years Impericon: Never say Die Tour, the band were determined to split the air with pure energy. Vocalist Darius Tehrani psyching himself up pre set with face slaps, guttural roars and fist bumping half the front row.

From the get go Spite went hard, the wall of sound like a giant hairdryer on full blast in your face. And the crowd loved it! The first band of the night that really got the room moving. Head-banging from all, moshing from most. Delivering a blistering repertoire, including many off 2022’s “Dedication to Flesh”.

Fellow metal-heads around me that were new to the band remarking “ohhh these boys are damn good” and we have to concur.

The band are now four albums deep, so are far from new comers, this showed in how tight the performance was. And this recent run of shows has opened up a whole new geographic fanbase to tap into.

Spite feel like a band who are just naturally at home on the big stage. And we hope it wont be long before we see them on the big stages of the likes of @downloadfest & @bloodstockopenair
