Preview – Bristol Beacon this November

Bristol Takeover returns this November for a free one day music festival amid a month of stellar live music

While the weather outside may be frightful, Bristol Beacon’s lineup of live music for November 2022 is nothing short of delightful! With a total of 18 live music events set to be hosted at a variety of Bristol’s best venues throughout the city, Bristol Beacon is sure to get locals out and about to enjoy a stellar range of musical talent as we move into the colder months.

For a unique and transcendent performance that will leave your mind lingering on the stage, Australian musician Indigo Sparke will be bringing her richly harmonic and emotive songwriting to The Louisiana on Monday 7th November. Fuelled by elegantly powerful vocals and resonant lyrics, the Indigo Sparke is set to enchant audiences and leave a lasting impression with her reflective collection of songs created with The National’s Aaron Dessner.

Evocative and innovative – Unquiet, a new music series for the brave and the curious will be brought to life in Bristol’s atmospheric venue, St George’s, on Tuesday 8th November. For a distinct sense of place and time which will open up new worlds, Carmen Villain and the Manchester Camerata Ensemble will transport you into a realm where the classical meets the sonic.

On Thursday 10th November, visitors can choose between a night of dynamic jazz or the sound of the Americana as both Liane Carroll and Josh Rouse take on Bristol for two distinctly different shows. At Bristol Beacon’s own foyer, Liane Carroll – the first ever artist to win two BBC Jazz Awards in the same year – will captivate audiences with her blues-tinged vocals, strong piano playing and infectious sense of humour which is set to make a truly remarkable night of live music. But, for a taste of the Americana, Josh Rouse will take on Fiddlers with his mix of funk, country and 80s-electronic inflections with a performance to commemorate the release of his latest album, Going Places.

The unique and long-awaited showing of Arcadia Live, the acclaimed film by BAFTA-winning director Paul Wright, will bewitch audiences on Friday 11th November as it transcends beyond the screen with a musical performance. In an exhilarating study of how British people’s connection to the world around them has shifted over 100 years through archived footage, viewers will be transported through a historical whirlwind, from ancient rituals to folk carnivals, masked parades, and mythology spanning a time long forgotten. Starring Portishead’s Adrian Utley and Goldfrapp’s Will Gregory, Arcadia Live will bring out the brutality, magic and madness of rural Britain through music and striking visuals.

Bristol Takeover will also return this November, showcasing the very best of the city’s musical talent, from DJs to bands and solo artists taking centre stage in Bristol Beacon’s foyer. Free to attend, the one-day music festival will feature emerging new local talent, and established favourites from across the city. Save the date of Saturday 19th November and come along to discover your next favourite band!

Musical medicine for your soul, Wayne Snow will be bringing his rich and sultry blend of sun-kissed soul and expansive jazz music to the Exchange on Thursday 24th November. Expect to sway, dance and groove to a night of music from the artist leading the neo-soul and future jazz scene as Snow performs the best tracks from his latest album, ‘Figurine’ – his most personal work to date.

Wrapping up yet another fantastic month of live music hosted by Bristol Beacon, the Bristol Beacon Junior Ensembles and the Bristol Youth Orchestra will be performing at Trinity Academy for their Winter Concert. Bound to raise festive cheer, the concert culminates the best of young classical musicians in the city in performances which offer a warm welcome to December as it arrives from just around the corner!
