Review – Leith Ross

The Fleece, 11th April

Leith Ross’ first night of their first ever headline tour in the UK was truly an unforgettable experience.

A 21st century voice for the LGBTQ+ community, the Ontario-born singer has captivated their audience since their rise to fame on video platform TikTok in early 2021 with their poetic artistry, perfectly encapsulated within their breakthrough single ‘We’ll Never Have Sex’.

Throughout the night, Ross showcased their deeply vulnerable and autobiographical discography, including songs from their debut EP ‘Motherwell’, released in the first autumn in a post-coronavirus pandemic world. They performed with such raw emotion, saturated in a tenderness that is so rare for an artist who has made their way into the limelight in such a public manner. It was impossible not to feel completely drawn in.

But what really stood out about Ross’s performance was their stage presence and their connection to their fans and audience. Leith made it feel as if we were in their own backyard, friends sitting around a fire singing songs about the fragility of love in all its forms and laughing about Doctor Who and stupid dad jokes. “Leith Ross? I barely know her!” submitted into their question box left for fans at the merch desk, causing an eruption of laughter throughout the room.

Leith’s unique artistry, pushing the boundaries between poetry, music and emotional confession, makes for a truly captivating and memorable live experience. Their ability to connect with their audience on a personal level is unparalleled, and their passion for their craft is apparent in every song they perform. If you’re a fan of intimate and authentic live shows, Leith Ross is an artist you won’t want to miss.
