The Blunders
The Blunders are the epitome of the saying “Punk Will Never Die”.
The trio brought their no-holds-barred dance-punk – to a packed Louie earlier this week and taught the youngsters in the crowd a few lessons from how punk is something lived, not worn like a trendy badge.
Politically charged with biting social commentary and savage humour the set was full speed from the get go.
Drawing on the bands 2017 “People Get Smaller” and the 2018 album “No Respite” the atmosphere was charged, sweat pouring, ears ringing, fingers up to the establishment. Pick of the set for me was “TV bastard” which feels very relevant of late. And thats the greatest thing about punk, it never ever ceases to be a relevant form of social expression.

Death Pill
From first chord to last the Ukrainian petrol bomb that is Death Pill melted faces & it was searingly beautiful. The trio, Navrotskaya (lead vocalist & guitarist), bass player Natalya Seryakova & drummer Anastasiya Khomenko produced a shockwave of energy.
Death Pill are a hardcore punk power trio with an undeniable strength & force. The band combines metalcore, punk rock, & an abundance of ‘Riot Grrl’ attitude. It’s remarkable to see how many female punk bands are using the ‘Riot Grrl’ movement’s stance & attitude as a cornerstone for their sound, but Death Pill’s music goes beyond this inspiration. Their visceral sound acknowledges a wide array of influences, from the classic punk of Black Flag & The Distillers to the modern outfits like Axe Rash & the thrash metal of Nervosa & Exodus.
Death Pill’s music is a potent combination of power & passion, & their self-titled debut album is a testament to their impressive sound & songwriting. The band’s music is full of energy & grit, their commitment to their craft is evident in every track. It was showcased to perfection as limbs were flying, mosh pits opening & closing like a portal to a metal universe whilst sweat was flung in every direction. The crowd were so hot for this band.
The album & indeed this tour made all the more remarkable owing to the troubles in Ukraine which now see the band separated across Europe & unable to rehearse prior to hitting UK stages. Well if this is how good they are unrehearsed I can’t imagine what they are like fully rehearsed up.
The set is effectively a full album run though in playlist order. Stand out tracks such as “Miss Revolt” & “Dirty Rotten Youth” as well as personal favourite “Kill The Traitors” rip through the venue like a tornado.
Mainly performed in English, but Ukrainian lyrics never too far away, its an energy level reminiscent of fellow compatriots Jinjer. Some of the musicianship on these tracks is next level so to witness it live & up close was a utter privilege.
A great album & a fantastic live band.
