Review – New America

The Lanes, March 5th 2022

The Lanes on a Saturday night is always a cracking venue, with a cracking atmosphere. Throw Bristol favs New America into the mix, crank up the volume and watch the crowd have a party.

Now a few of you might know that NA’s lead vocalist Cam also reviews on our behalf. With that in mind I’ll set that aside and give an honest appraisal of the gig.

New America a blend of scuzzy noise rock with a undercurrent of old skool punk. Accomplished performers with a solid set that includes favourites “Hong Kong Free Press” & “Going To The Races”
The four piece were quickly into their grove, which transmitted to the crowd. With a front row happily moshing along.

The set wasn’t without its issues, but this was due to technical problems that dogged both performances that evening. If anything this allowed the band to interact playfully with the crowd. I learned some facts about Swans from Cam that will stay with me for life.

That charm in both delivery of a solid set and crowd interaction really set the bar for a great evening. There’s a touch of playful swagger, delivered with cheeky smiles. With just the right amount of caustic venom in the lyrics to keep it authentically punk.

And there will be a plethora of New America Band Tee’s around Bristol after the guys performance had the Merch stand sell out.
