Review – Mabel

The Fleece, 27th July 2022

The beat drops… the lights swirl…the dancers troop onto stage. Followed swiftly by a genuine superstar.

What was billed as an intimate album launch show at Bristol’s iconic Fleece quickly developed into something much more.

This felt like Mabel really giving back & connecting with a fan base that have helped propel her to stardom on a real & meaningful level.

The sincere humbleness Mabel displayed with her fans was actually quite touching.

Stopping the show entirely at one point to read a fans sign, drop to her knees and reach over the barrier to hug them.

The show itself was flawless. Sublime choreography and vocal dexterity from an artist who only last month played in front of hundreds of thousands in front of Buckingham Palace as part of the Queens Platinum Jubilee.

The real & welcome surprise here was to hear such a wide range of songs. Most of us fully expecting the full set to be from new album “About Last Night…”, currently riding high at No2 in the UK Charts.

However we were treated to a full Mabel back catalogue as well including the likes of “Finders Keepers” & “Don’t Call Me Up”

The album however is surely platinum in waiting? Tracks such as “LOL” & “Definition” tick all the instant classic buttons.

The sold out crowd savouring the fact this is likely  the last time any of us will see Mabel in such intimate surroundings.
