Review – Jelani Blackman

The Exchange, May 17th

Jelani Blackman brought his ‘Unlimited’ tour to The Exchange in Bristol on 17th May 2022 & SOLD OUT the venue!

Previously, Jelani has worked with the likes of Gorillaz, Burna Boy, Wolf Alice, & has also been featured on Charlie Sloth’s Rap Show. Originally from Ladbroke Grove, the London rapper hasundoubtedly been making moves in his craft, & has garnered support from the likes of Annie Mac, DJ Target, Maya Jama, Julia Adenuga, Charlie Sloth & many more.

Jelani took to the stage & hyped the crowd immediately! He said it was good to be back in Bristol & that the last time he performed a show here, he ended up staying for 3 days after because he enjoyed the city that much.

The atmosphere was absolutely buzzing throughout the entirety of Jelani’s set, & he often jumped into the crowd to get the fans more involved. He also participated in mosh pits with his fans, so the energy was even more electric. Small intimate shows like this are my favourite, and I truly admire when artists like Jelani join their fans in the crowd, because it makes gigs even more memorable.

Jelani is undeniably an artist to watch; I can see this guy making major moves in the future. He mentioned a potential collaboration with Kojey Radical in the future, which is incredibly exciting to think about! His effortless talent and wordplay in his lyricism is absolutely extraordinary. His voice and sound is also very unique and super refreshing. Although I predominantly prefer American hip-hop, I’m slowly starting to become a fan of a small number of UK rappers, and Jelani has certainly been added to my list.

My personal favourite tracks by him are ‘Hello’, ‘Average Joe’, ‘Nobody’s Son’, ‘Cold’ and ‘Bubblin’. His discography is so extensive and brilliant that I honestly could keep naming tracks to recommend!

Next time he tours in Bristol, I can’t wait to see him again & I envision he’ll be selling out an even bigger venue next time.

Go and stream ‘Unlimited’ now and check out Jelani Blackman’s music on all streaming platforms!
