Review – Holly Humberstone

Bristol O2 Academy, 22nd November

There was a palpable sense of excitement pulsing through a sold out crowd at Bristol’s O2 Academy on Tuesday night as Holly Humberstone opened the first night of her “Sleep Tight” tour.

After all its not often a Brits “Rising Star” recipient graces the city.

Grace is actually a perfect adjective to use when describing the diminutive singer-songwriter.

Holly Humberstone doesn’t perform on a stage, she graces it.

Theres is no snazzy lighting set up here. No OTT movement. Just Holly, her band and that voice…. Oh my that voice …

The stripped back feel of the night lens itself perfectly to accentuate what has to be one of the UK’s most gifted vocalists at the moment.

And we are not alone in feeling this way. The O2 is fit to bursting, necks craning all the way to the back of the arena as people try to catch a glimpse of one of the countries brightest new stars.

Holly lets us know how nervous she is, which only endears her even more to the crowd.

And pretty much ever song is accompanied with a beautiful little anecdote of how it came to be.

The 14 song set is packed with multi million streamed songs that are sang back at Holly full volume, proving the nerves were not warranted.

The two ground breaking EP’s, compiled into album “Can You Afford To Lose Me” are fully aired.

And from first track “The Walls Are Way Too Thin” to last “Scarlett” the swaying crowd, phone lights held high are treated to a special performance from a young star that will be a household name for years to come.

The humbleness in performance, combined with the open and honest nature of Holly’s writing connects her so easily to everyone in the building.

Nevermore so than the encore tracks of “Falling Asleep At The Wheel” & “Sleep Tight” which ensure everyone leaves with beaming smiles from a special night.

We implore you to catch Holly on this tour so you can say you witnessed the birth of the UK’s next global breakthrough star.
