Preview – Annie Hamilton

Bristol Rough Trade – August 2nd 2022

Australian pop singer-songwriter Annie Hamilton has announced a show at Rough Trade in Bristol this Summer.

Over the course of her short solo career to date, Annie Hamilton has toured with the likes of Julia Jacklin, Gordi and Jack River, and the Sydney-based singer is now bringing her celestial pop to Bristol on 2 August 2022.

Through cascading, ethereal vocals and sprawling instrumentation, the Australian artist boasts a unique ability to evoke memory and nostalgia within her music.

Rejecting straightforward narrative structure in favour of pinning down hyper-specific yet universally empathetic moments, her debut album ‘the future is here but it feels kinda like the past’ was released earlier this year.

A stylised-yet-grainy collage of snapshots that span a mammoth range of emotion, sound and genre, the record is a documentation of little human moments full of contradiction and duality; a soundtrack to stumbling through life and trying to make some kind of beautiful, fleeting sense of it.

Attracting praise from the likes of triple j, FBi Radio, RUSSH and LNWY, NME awarded her debut album four out of five stars commending her ability to “stack heady textures so impactfully that everything she sings about begins to feel like sensory immersion,” while Clash Magazine said “Annie Hamilton seems to strike just when the time is right”.

Catch Annie Hamitlon making a rare UK appearance at Rough Trade Bristol next month.
