Recently hailed “19th best club in the world” by DJ Mag, Motion are now also the first venue in Bristol to be awarded their SAVI Licence that recognises the efforts to improve safety across all areas for staff and ravers alike.
Standing for Licensing Security and Vulnerability Initiative (Licensing SAVI), the assessment was developed at the request of the Home Office by Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (Police CPI), to prevent and reduce crime. With this award for passing the assessment, Motion have demonstrated their commitment to improving safety and security in the night-time economy.
Jason Hines who is Chief Operating Officer at Motion said, “The assessment proved highly valuable and demonstrated an extensive understanding of compliance. It is truly gratifying to know that the certification comes from an accredited officer who is familiar with our business and our dedication to safety. Receiving accreditation wouldn’t have been possible without the diligent efforts and commitment of our staff, who have enabled us to implement these standards at such a remarkable level.”
Supporting the hospitality industry, Licensing SAVI is backed by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) and Project Servator, a police-led vigilance scheme to deter terrorist attacks at crowded places. Its aim is to provide safer and more secure venues for managers, staff, customers and local communities and to reduce the demand on hard-pressed police forces and their partners.
With the aim to get further venues on board, the assessment is available online and covers topics including responsible drinking, drugs misuse, preventing violent behaviour and safeguarding vulnerable customers through to preventing opportunist theft and improving physical security, such as lighting and CCTV systems. Most measures included in Licensing SAVI can be introduced quickly and at little or no cost to the venue.
Dawid Chocholski who is General Manager at Motion commented, “Safety and wellbeing of our patrons is of paramount importance to everyone at Motion. It is a huge honour to be the first venue in Bristol to be acknowledged and awarded by such a prestigious organisation as SAVI.”
Licensing SAVI provides consistent standards, guidance and advice that licensed premises in Wales and England need to meet the requirements of the Licensing Act 2003 and promote the four Licensing Objectives: Prevention of Public Nuisance; Prevention of Crime and Disorder; Protection of Children from Harm; and Public Safety. Licensing SAVI also includes a non-assessed guidance section on counter terrorism.
On completing the self-assessment, and additional checks, Motion received a five star rating, an accreditation, and an award to display and show the efforts undertaken to enhance safety. George Thoburn, Programming and Marketing Manager at Motion adds, “we prioritise the health and safety of our customers with the same level of importance as the quality and diversity of shows we deliver. It brings us great reassurance and pride to acknowledge that we consistently meet and uphold these standards.”
Those going, or considering attending Motion for one of their in demand club nights, can now party with the peace of mind that all safety measures and their well being will be handled at an incredibly high standard and is of primary importance to the venue.
