GIG OF THE WEEK – Sumo Cyco

The Exchange

These previews are supposed to be even, balanced and fair…. well on this occasion to hell with that.

One of the hottest bands on the planet is BACK IN BRISTOL

Ladies and gents – Sumo Cyco

It’s best to let the music do the talking for Skye, Matt, Trozzi and Oscar as it’s utterly pointless trying to categorise this band. When you fuse elements of Punk, Metal, Dancehall and SKA where the hell would you start anyway?

This is far from Sumo’s first visit to Bristol, but I have been at every one so far and wouldn’t miss this for the world.

From humble beginnings playing the likes of the Marble Factory in front of 30 or so paying patrons. The band are on a meteoric rise that has seen them blow a huge crowd away at Download Festival and just complete a multi sell out venue tour of the USA with Jinjer.

This time the Canadian party rockers hit up The Exchange. And there are very few tickets remaining so grab yours from the link below before it’s another sell out.

The one thing I can guarantee is a full on, in your face, loud party that gets the whole room pumped and involved.

As the band themselves say “We’re like having your head ripped off by a cheerleader and getting punched in the face” all in a good way of course.

If you are lucky to be in the crowd then expect to rub shoulders with the band. In my time I have witnessed Skye climb on Matt’s shoulders to get through the throng and get themselves a shot at the bar. As well as scale anything that’s remotely climbable as nervous venue owners look on.

These shows are some of the most fan interactive you’ll experience. And it’s that connection with their fans that has seen the Sumo Cyco army swell in numbers over the last 18 months.

Visually stunning, artistically maverick and talent by the bucket load.

Regardless of the weather outside you will be walking around the city afterwards soaked to the skin, wearing the broadest smile and the latest convert to Sumo Cyco.
