GIG OF THE WEEK – JOY!

Rough Trade Bristol, Saturday 18th of January

Our first Gig Of The Week feature for 2020 belongs to JOY!!!!

“Grunge/Punk” powerhouse Joy have been lurking in the Bristol live circuit for the past year, biding their time for their first release. Comprised of Tobu Ijbema (vocals, guitar), George Thornton (guitar, vocals), Lucas Male (drums) & Louis Cherniavsky (bass), they deal in the raucous and asinine and their newest single “Plastic Waste (at the bottom of the Mariana Trench)” is no exception.

The new single (out tomorrow , Weds 15th) is set to be released alongside a music video the band shot in the purgatory of a basement. The track is high octane to deafening levels and attractively macabre. This is the first landmark in what is set to be a very busy year for Joy.

With a strong ethos toward authentically capturing their live essence during the recording process and not overproducing to the point of soullessness, Joy will no doubt seize the attention of those with a love for raw and live sound.

Influenced by bands such as Sonic Youth, DIIV, Crows and IDLES audiences can expect a show of unbridled static noise, intertwined with drooling melodies and jittering macabre energy.

So head down to Rough Trade this Saturday. Pick up a copy of the new single at it’s launch event. And put some JOY back in your January.
