Review – Snayx at Exchange, Bristol, October 24th

Is it really a Snayx gig if you don’t leave sweaty, smiling, and with a few bruises? At least that’s how I left the Exchange the other day after a thoroughly energetic and fantastic performance to close out the Snayx tour.

I have never not seen Snayx give their gigs 100% and this gig was no different. With top class vocals from Charlie, a driving rhythm from Lainey, and enough bass to shake the stage from Ollie. This powerhouse of a band gave the Exchange crowd a run for their money.

They covered all their bases throughout the set including their new single Better Days which I absolutely can’t get enough of the minute. They also smashed out a good load of classics which I’d be the first to say are going to become household names, at least in punk circles, in the coming years. Not only that but they sprinkled in a fair few new songs which are going to be very welcome additions to their already fantastic discography. No spoilers though. You can stream the new tracks on February 9th 2024 so be patient.

The crowd that night topped any I’d seen in a while, complete with crowd surfing, mosh pits, and even a guest appearance from the one and only Belly Crawlers Social Club; Snayx’s very own fan group. Badges were handed out and the troops were unified in their love of this band’s music.

This was a fantastic end to an incredible tour but I definitely got the sense that they were only just warming up. Snayx are definitely one to watch in the coming months and they’re quickly making a name for themselves. Having played in an impressive number of festivals this year including 2000 Trees, Reading, and Download, surely the only way for them is to creep their way into bigger and bigger things. Tough list to top though! I’m excited to see where they’re headed next year and I strongly advise you do the same and keep an eye out for them.

The night itself felt like a riotous celebration of not only their own music but music in general with the set finishing with the two support bands Monakis and Shelf Lives on stage too. These guys know how to put on a show and I can only applaud both their stamina and musical talent and wait with bated breath for the next release.

Qualification: 1st class BA photojournalism degree

First attended gig: First ticketed gig I remember is Newton Faulkner but there was plenty of live music that I saw growing up in the folk scene in Cornwall

First gig shot: Rattler Fest for all three days

Dream gig: It's too hard to pick just one, and i'm lucky enough to have been able to shoot some of my bucket list bands already, so top 3 would have to be Frank Turner, The Hives, and Twenty One Pilots
