Review – Wilderado

Bristol Rough Trade, October 25th 2022

A modern band with an old soul.

4,465… thats the distance in miles from Tulsa, Oklahoma to Bristol.

Quite a ways. However for Wilderado (Max Rainer (lead singer, guitarist), Tyler Wimpee (guitarist, vocals), Justin Kila (drums), David Arthur Stimson (bass) for a few hours on Tuesday night it must have felt like home.

The American, Indie folk band had a warmth about their music and their connection with the crowd that felt like a gig from years gone by.

Like we’d all gathered in a barn on a warm summers eve to hear our friends band play.

You cant bottle that feeling.

The fondness of which Max spoke of the UK was reciprocated by a crowd that wavered between respectful silence and being lost in the moment and singing along.

In the UK to tour the long awaited full album of last year, self titled “Wilderado”, the band took us with them on a road trip. From the Californian mountains and debut EP “ The Misty Shrub” to the wide open prairies of Oklahoma state.

The sound of some of those soaring melodies and lush three-part harmonies that are intrinsic to the bands sound were breathtaking to hear live.

Surefire this was a hell of a gig. When music has the power to evoke emotional responses it truly is the most magical thing in our world.

Thank you Wilderado , we’ll see you again soon.
