The Wombats Electrify The Marble Factory with an Exclusive Setlist Surprise
Bristol’s Marble Factory, a staple of the city’s live music scene, played host to indie rock stalwarts The Wombats as they teamed up with Rough Trade for an intimate yet high-energy show. The venue has long been a go-to for fans craving a raw, unfiltered live music experience—a fitting stage for a band that thrives on raucous melodies and introspective lyricism.
Approaching from Silverthorne Lane, it was clear that this was no ordinary midweek gig. The queue stretched well beyond visibility, an unusual sight so close to doors opening. The reason? Every ticket included a copy of the band’s brand-new album, Oh! The Ocean, sending fans scrambling for their exclusive vinyl or CD. The anticipation was palpable, and for good reason—this was The Wombats’ fourth time gracing a Bristol stage, but their first away from the O2 Academy.
For a band that has headlined major festivals and toured across Europe, North America, Australia, and Asia, the decision to bring their record store tour to a more intimate setting made the night feel like a rare gem. Matthew Murphy (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Tord Øverland Knudsen (bass, vocals), and Dan Haggis (drums, vocals) were on the third stop of their tour, celebrating the Valentine’s Day release of Oh! The Ocean, a 12-track odyssey through the band’s signature fusion of punchy guitars, electronic textures, and wry, self-reflective storytelling.
The night’s setlist was a well-balanced showcase of new material and classic fan favorites:
Setlist:
• Sorry I’m Late, I Didn’t Want to Come
• Can’t Say No
• Kate Moss
• I Love America and She Hates Me
• If You Ever Leave, I’m Coming With You
• Greek Tragedy
• Blood on the Hospital Floor
• My Head Is Not My Friend
• Lemon to a Knife Fight (Bristol-exclusive addition)
• The World’s Not Out to Get Me, I Am
• Turn
• Let’s Dance to Joy Division
Sharp-eared fans were treated to an unexpected delight—Lemon to a Knife Fight, a beloved track that wasn’t on the standard setlist for this tour. The moment Murphy announced its inclusion, the crowd erupted, proving that while this was an album promo run, The Wombats know how to keep their long-time supporters engaged.
As expected, the anthems—Greek Tragedy, Turn, and Let’s Dance to Joy Division—set the room alight, but what truly impressed was the audience’s commitment to the fresh material. Just days after release, the crowd was already belting out lyrics to songs like My Head Is Not My Friend and Can’t Say No, a testament to the band’s enduring connection with their fanbase.
Unlike earlier acoustic shows on this tour, Bristol was treated to the full Wombats experience—a proper stage setup, immersive lighting, and a sound mix that ensured every synth shimmer and bassline hit with clarity. There was no encore, which is standard for album launch tours, but the energy was relentless throughout.
This show was more than just a performance—it was a celebration of Bristol’s rich live music culture.
Verdict? Whether at a festival or on their own headline run, The Wombats remain one of indie rock’s most electrifying live acts. If they’re stopping in a city near you, don’t hesitate—these shows are unmissable.

Role: Photographer
I'm a semi-professional photographer that loves to capture anything and everything. I'd love to travel with my photography so going on tour has always been on my to-do list.
My first camera was gifted to me as a hand me down from my brother many many years ago and I've only gotten better since and learnt along the way.
Qualification: Self taught photographer/videographer. Didn't go to uni, work full time in telecomms.
Available for: Sport, events, portrait and anything that takes my fancy, other than weddings!
First attended gig: The first gig I attended was a band called Dog Is Dead at the Louisianna in Bristol. It was such a good gig and I recruited some family to take me as I was under 16! This band was my gateway into the Indie Pop Rock genre that I love today.
First gig shot: The first band I took pictures of was, was the first gig I went to alone. None of my friends liked the band, Pinegrove, so I contacted Thekla and asked if I could bring my camera. They let me in and I had my first photo pass! I still have the badge to this day.
Dream gig: Arctic Monkeys in the AM era. Watching Matt Bellamy run down the stage playing plug in baby. Moose Blood on a tour...!
