ANCHOR LANE

A band that could get a funeral service up n moving.

Scottish trio Anchor Lane are a busy band.

Rocking up at The Louie in support of the Virgin Marys in what is their third trip around the UK in 2022.

Their reputation for dynamic live performances earned from constant touring and festival slots at the likes of Download & Isle of Wight. As well as notable spots with Eagles of Death Metal, Tremonti and Cheap Trick.

Momentum seems firmly behind a band who’s debut album “Casino” earned a top ten slot in the UK Rock Albums Chart.

With a sound sitting somewhere between Royal Blood and Biffy Clyro the live set is high energy,  riff driven and FUN

The band have a great, playful nature amongst themselves & the busy crowd.

The dry Scottish wit evident as they encourage the slightly stiff at the start crowd to let loose & enjoy.

By mid set the crowd had thrown off the shackles and hauled in the anchors. And were thoroughly enjoying themselves. In large part due to the charisma and enthusiasm that Anchor Lane bring to their live performances. Its infectious and It’s impossible not to enjoy these guys.

New single “Stutter” gets a live airing. As do a collection of bangers from 2020s album. All warmly received by those in attendance.

Keep an eye out for Anchor Lane if you attend any summer festivals next year. I’d love to see this energy on a large outdoor stage. They seem a band that really suit the festival and live performance environment.

THE VIRGINMARYS

Beautiful, intense, noise

Ive been waiting a long time to catch The VirginMarys live.

Finally, on Monday night, along with what felt like a sold out Louie it happened. And it was beautiful!!!!

The duo, consisting of guitarist/vocalist Ally Dickaty and drummer Danny Dolan are a blistering live combo. From Ally’s gravel laden voice. To some of the most accomplished and ferocious drumming I’ve seen from Danny. This is a band that have a ethos and refuse to compromise. Making the music they want, their way, come hell or high water. And its that honesty & integrity to their lyrics and music that has seen them draw crowds for the past ten years.

Ten years of course gives the band a wealth of material to draw. And with four albums in the bank the set was a treasure trove for long standing fans. Running to a crazy 19 tracks, I truly believe the duo would have kept playing for the crowd all night if the curfew had enabled them. And they hadn’t already expended every ounce of energy they could muster.

Creating a whirlwhind of hard and fast noise that crisscrossed from punk/grunge/blues and rock. The duo produce a sonic shockwave akin to the blast that radiants outward from a thermo nuclear blast and touches everything.

The band, through their life-affirming message of ‘Peace Love Truth Music’, have garnered fans from all over the group. Even in the small & sweaty confines of The Louie we find a couple that had travelled all the way from Sweden to catch the band. And its those enduring and personal relationships the band have grown and fostered with their fans that will ensure (as long as they are physically able to pull of hammerfist shows) will continue for years to come.

Simply Brilliant!
