Bristol Beacon Presents at Canons Marsh Amphitheatre
What does Bristol need in the midst of a heatwave? Something cool.
And it really doesn’t get any cooler than Rock n Roll hall of famer Nile Rodgers. Complete with Chic and one of the best touring bands I can remember seeing.
Just under 5000 crammed into Canons Marsh Amphitheatre to witness a true music icon. A performer who’s also penned songs for the likes of Madonna, Diana Ross & David Bowie to name, but a few.
The man doesn’t play funk. He IS funk. And this giant Funkasaurus Rex set about blasting the crowd with hit after hit after hit until they were giddy with excitement.
The set drifted between Chic classics such as “Le Freak” & “Everybody Dance”. To classics that many in the crowd may not have realised were written & produced by the man in question. Madonna’s “Material girl” & “like a Virgin” montaged with Bowles “Let’s Dance” and Duran Durans “Notorious”.
It was as if someone had given a 1980s Jukebox a swift kick and it wouldn’t stop until the crowd had danced themselves into a frenzy.
This was all performed with Rodgers trademark smile as his white suit glimmered under the stage lights.
If you could have captured the positive feeling in the crowd on Wednesday night and bottled it. It would provide a glimpse of how powerful this man’s music has been in peoples lives.
