The Louisiana – 28/11/21
It’s fair to say we’d been really looking forward to this gig for months. Having been quite late to the MMATSU party (discovering them in Lockdown 2: Covids Revenge) we’ve consumed every single piece of music we could cram into our eardrums from the genre busters ever since.
First off the bat we have to say, what a lovely band Millie (Vox, Sax, Guitar, Ukulele), George (Bass, Vox), Joe (Guitar, Vox) & Alex (drums) are on a personal level. Easily one of the most grounded, real & down to Earth bands we’ve had the pleasure of speaking with. Watching Millie interact with the fans both on and off stage made the gig feel like it was a gathering of friends.
And boy did they gather. The Louie was packed to the rafters, for a band that blends so many different styles, draws from so many different genres it’s hard to describe their sound…. but here goes.
Imagine if @pink & @scroobiuspipyo had a lovechild. And locked them away with piles of Glenn Miller & old skool @nodoubt records for company…
MMATSU really are a band of contrasts. Their live performances are incredibly upbeat/up tempo , yet the messages being conveyed in their lyrics are incredibly deep, personal & reflective of society today. It’s a formula that works so very well.
Millie is a deep thinker, that draws on her own thoughts & experiences in the most articulate way. Regularly stopping the show to explain the thought process behind her songs.
The set itself was huge, 15 songs, which comprised the entirety of the latest album “Telling Truths, Breaking Ties” & then some. The crowd treated to the goose bump inducing “Silent Screams” & “Glitter Mix” as well as floor bouncing renditions of “Panic”, “Bacchus” & “Bitter”
The energy on stage was in high gear from start to finish. With the crowd eager to vibe off the band & dance the night away as they sang Millie’s lyrics back to her. It was a pleasure to be part of such a positively charged atmosphere.
Please do not miss the opportunity to catch MMATSU live, they are pure gold.
