Review – Glass Animals, Marble Factory, July 10th

English indie rock band Glass Animals brought a stunning intimate outstore performance with Rough Trade to Bristol’s Marble Factory on 10th July, to celebrate their upcoming fourth album titled ‘I Love You So F***ing Much’ which is due to arrive on streaming platforms very soon.

Dedicated fans flocked to the sold-out show and filled the balconies and the entire main floor to catch a glimpse of the beloved band’s set. Consisting of nine songs, most of which are not publicly released yet, and an encore of four more well-known records, the whole setlist was a captivating mix of fresh and former tunes. With a career spanning over 10 years and having grown up together from the age of 13, Glass Animals’ unique sound has evidently evolved with them, so no wonder it’s so easy on the ear.

During the show, the band’s frontman, Dave Bayley, regularly interacted with fans near the front of the barrier as he often performed on top of the speakers situated at the front of the stage. Near the beginning of the set, Dave took off his shoes and performed in his socks for the rest of the show as he danced around, jamming with each band member in a collective harmony. A particularly special moment throughout the concert was when Bayley noticed a fan with a disposable camera, and so he took it onto the stage and captured two shots of the crowd on film before handing it back to the happy gig-goer.

As the incredible performance seemingly came to an end, Bayley exclaimed to the crowd “thank you so f***ing much, it’s been amazing, we’ll see you soon…lots of love.” Whilst the frontman turned the mic stand around to the crowd, the four-piece all clapped and waved to their fans whilst exiting the stage. This didn’t stop the determined crowd from collectively shouting “one more song” though, a classic concert chant which, as per tradition, influenced the band to reappear and play an additional four songs. Glass Animals’ epic encore consisted of a blend of their first and latest albums, as they performed ‘Waterfalls Coming Out Of Your Mouth’, ‘Gooey’ ‘Black Mambo’, which was debuted on this tour, and one of my personal favourites, a real crowd pleaser, ‘Heat Waves’. Overall, this intimate performance was a wonderful testament to the band’s growth of over more than a decade, as well as a nod to the future as glorious new music from them imminently approaches.

Don’t forget to check out Glass Animals’ forthcoming fourth album ‘I Love You So F***ing Much’ which is due for release on 19th July 2024.

Role: Photographer

I’m primarily a photographer for both concerts and festivals, and am also available for BTS photos, portraits, promo shoots and tour photography. I also write the occasional review.

Available for: Gig Shoots, Photo Shoots, Album and Single cover shoots and Touring

First attended gig: My most memorable early concert experience was seeing Eminem in 2014 at Wembley Stadium. This was a very pivotal moment in my life as it reinforced why I love music so much and reignited my passion for it.

First gig shot: The very first artist I photographed live was the DJ and producer Nathan Dawe at SWX Bristol. This was an incredibly fulfilling start to concert photography, as I was on stage with him during his set, and even hung out backstage afterwards.

Dream gig: My top 5 dream artists to one day photograph would be Eminem, J. Cole, Rod Wave, Jon Bellion, and Logic. One of my favourite artists, Juice WRLD, is sadly no longer alive, and I wish I had had the opportunity to see him perform live and photograph him.
