Review – Cosmic Ninja w/Try Me

The Old Market Assembly 20/11/21

Try Me

Brilliantly bonkers! Yes, but oh so clever

If you’re looking to get a party started instantly you’d need look no further than Hector Boogieman & Bendy Wendy. The pure funk fun duo known as Try Me.

Reimagine the scissor sisters if they started in 2020 with today’s society & influences. Slap on some electronic boom beats. Then throw in some edgy lyrics delivered with a cheeky wink.

I don’t want to do Try Me a disservice by pegging them as a “party band” as they have many more layers than that.
They deliver a feel good vibe to a room, but it’s so cleverly executed. The wit is sharp, the moves and music sharper. Both producers in their own right the duo effortlessly combine intelligent, funny story telling with perfectly synced harmonies and pop melodies that remain lodged in your brain for HOURS after the gig has finished. I caught myself humming along to their tracks at various points all day Sunday.

Confident & skilled to the point it’s within their repertoire to pull melody & lyrics out of thin air given suggestions from the crowd like a top end improv comedian. Any band that gloriously etches Linda McCartney Sausages into a song are instant heroes in my book. The crowd ate it up (apologies)

It’s impossible not to love Try Me. And once you do try them, you’ll definitely be coming back for second helpings.

Cosmic Ninja

oming out of the gates with a fury of a band playing their first home town gig in almost two years Cosmic Ninja  (TC – Vocalist , Jonny – Guitarist/ Vocalist, Robin – Bass & Danny – Drums) were hyped.

Headlining a packed Old Market Assembly as part of yet another banging night put on by Punka the Bristol based quartet looked determined to have a party.

Blending a mix of social issue lyrics with a sound that sits somewhere in the realms of Pendulum & Prodigy. The Rock Ravers had the whole room bouncing instantly.

Leading the line up, vocalist TC is a giant ball of energy. With an irrepressible urge to bounce, jump & sing with everything they have. It’s bloody infectious… And when combined with a beast / machine of a drummer and bassist, guitarist that both just went for it there was no stopping Cosmic Ninja from delivering banger after banger.

This band is like a giant wall of energy that hits you hard in the chest. Seeps into your limbs and makes you dance.(Quite distracting when you’re trying to shoot photos, but can’t help but bust some moves at the same time)

A ten piece set that included a Prodigy melody that had the crowd literally lose their shitCosmic Ninja transported us for a brief period of time to a dark, sweaty, packed festival tent at the height of summer…AND WE LOVED THEM FOR IT!!!
