Today they also share new single ‘Desire‘, a 2-minute belter about the confusion surrounding a new infatuation. Other tracks from the EP include recent singles ‘Body‘ and ‘How Does It Feel?‘, which drew strong support from BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders, BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq and Amy Lamé, BBC Radio Foyle’s Stephen McCauley, Radio X’s John Kennedy and much more. Listen to / watch the video for ‘Desire’ here: https://youtu.be/XB9zgQTwdKM Driven by a raucous guitar sound, a thumping bassline and propulsive drums, ‘Desire’ is another blistering offering from one of the UK’s most ascendant new acts. The band say of the track: “‘Desire’ is about meeting someone new and being immediately intrigued by them. The track focuses on the confusion surrounding infatuation and trying to keep yourself grounded at the same time.” Directed by Oliver Mallory, the music video features Frankie Darwin and American writer, poet and friend of the band Savannah Brown. Shot over an unusually confrontational chess match, the pair segue from a silent fallout to an impassioned argument as their game continues. Other tracks on the EP include previous singles ‘How Does It Feel?‘, which draws on frontperson Yasmin Berndt‘s Belgian heritage with lyrics sung in both French and English, and ‘Body‘, which the band call “an anthem for anyone that’s ever felt uncomfortable in their own skin. An urgent statement of disassociation, feeling trapped and not recognising yourself in the mirror, it’s an ode to anyone who has ever felt different.” The EP closes with its title track, of which the band say: “‘Who Am I’ is about being judged by someone without them really knowing you. Written from the point of view of someone being judged for the negative stereotypes of their zodiac sign, it’s an anthem by gemini’s, for all the other gemini’s out there.” Last year the band supported IDLES and Opus Kink, appeared on NME‘s Essential Artists for 2022 list, performed at Austin’s SXSW, Paris’s Supersonic, the UK’s Sound City, The Great Escape, 2000 Trees, TruckFestival and Green Man (where they were Rising finalists in 2021). This year they are returning with a UK headline tour this March (dates below). More about Grandmas House Bristol-based Grandmas House – consisting of Yasmin Berndt (guitar, vocals), Poppy Dodgson (vocals, drums) and Zoë Zinsmeister (bass, vocals) – burst onto the scene with their first single ‘Devils Advocate’ in 2020. Female, queer and unapologetic, the trio formed as they ‘wanted a place to scream about the stuff we care about, which is why we started writing music and learning our instruments which lead to us moving in together and starting the band’. Heavily driven and inspired by other women in the music industry who are working to close the ever-present gap of inequality, Grandmas House aspire to do the same. Their sound is inspired by a deep love for many genres of music – the current post-punk scene and 70’s punk as well as the DIY attitudes that come with those genres whilst also loving a melodic and catchy sound influenced by indie and pop. The band put a lot of energy into each song to be as loud as they possibly can. With vocals compared to artists ranging from The Raincoats to Motörhead and described musically as a mix between Courtney Barnett and The Slits, the original, fresh sound coming from this band is undeniable. Electrifying live they have supported IDLES, Pigs x7, Katy J Pearson and TV Priest, performed at a handful of festivals around the UK and abroad, had their fan-favourite track ‘Always Happy’ featured on critically acclaimed Apple TV series Bad Sisters and released their stellar self-titled debut EP via Brace Yourself Records in October 2021.
