Psych-jazz quartet Melotone return with the release of their sophomore single Entre Ondas, out now via Think Twice Records,an arm of Last Man Music Group.
Drawing inspiration from sixties psychedelia, specifically the jazz-infused Tropicalia movement, Melotone are a band interested in texture and ambience over ego. Entre Ondas is a wonderfully hypnotic track that evokes bossa nova and tropicalia influences, diving deeper into the sounds of Brazil – a place of inspiration for the band and native country of singer Alec Madeley. Sung entirely in Portuguese, Entre Ondas evokes a spiritual sound, which ripples through the spacious verses and percussive choruses effortlessly.
Talking about the single, Alec explains, “Entre Ondas is a landmark song for me because it is the first of ours that truly captures our love of sixties and seventies Brazilian music. During the pandemic, I was listening to a lot of Caetano Veloso, Os Novos Baianos, and Gal Costa, which I think inspired me to write something in Portuguese, almost as a homage to the greats I had been obsessing over.”
Melotone are Alec (vocals), Pete Carey (guitar, vocals), Ant Nicklin (bass) and Ed Pearson (drums). They are originally from The Black Country but now reside in Bristol, after forming as a band in 2019. Alec’s half-Brazilian heritage has influenced the rest of the band hugely when it comes to their musical stylings, with Entre Ondas being no exception. Their debut single Dances On Tableaus received support from Fred Perry Subculture, Metal Magazine and Yuck Magazine to name a few. Now signed to Think Twice Records, the quartet are excited to introduce listeners further to their unique blend of jazz-infused psych-rock.
Catch Melotone live at their single launch show on 13th December 2022 at The Cloak and Dagger, Bristol.
