New Music – CHUBBY AND THE GANG ANNOUNCE A CHRISTMAS EXTRAVAGANZA SINGLE SHARE ‘VIOLENT NIGHT (A CHRISTMAS TALE)’

TWO-TRACK SINGLE b/w ‘RED RAG TO A BULL’ OUT DEC 14th DIGITALLY VIA PARTISAN RECORDS

LONDON CHRISTMAS SHOW – DEC 15th @ THE LOWER THIRD

NEW ALBUM, THE MUTT’S NUTS,
OUT NOW ON PARTISAN

Happy holidays! In the spirit of the season, West London 4-piece Chubby and the Gang have announced a brand new two-track single Chubby and the Gang Presents: A Christmas Extravaganza, released digitally on Dec 14th via Partisan Records. It follows on from February’s Labour of Love EP in a tradition of seasonal releases from the ascendant quartet.

Also shared today is ‘Violent Night (A Christmas Tale)’, the single’s rollicking, shout-along A-side which frontman Charlie Manning-Walker penned as a reaction to the monotony of the regularly rotated Christmas ‘Classics’: “I wrote this Xmas song sitting in my van freezing cold waiting to start work during the holidays,” he explains. “Because I’m tired of hearing the same four songs on repeat over the season.” It’s an M.O. that ‘Violent Night’ hits and then some, an electrifying holiday anthem with nary a sleigh bell in sight which received a debut yesterday evening on Steve Lamacq‘s BBC 6Music show.

It’s joined on the single by ‘Red Rag To A Bull’, a whirlwind of white hot energy that finds Manning Walker at the height of his incendiary powers putting society to the sword in the way he’s done so successfully on the band’s two acclaimed albums to date, 2020’s Speed Kills and its 2021 follow-up The Mutt’s Nuts, both of which are available now on Partisan. At the eye of the storm, ‘Red Rag To A Bull’ is a song about, as Manning Walker puts it, “how I just can’t help myself. This world really tries its best to bring ya down through work and politics and it all just seems to be nose diving. So I just wanna have a good time while I’m still here.”

For those looking for such a good time, be sure to catch the band’s special London Christmas show at The Lower Third on Dec 15th. Not only will it be the only chance for loyal fans to get their mitts on a flexi disc version of the single in person, it’ll also be the debut of Chubby and the Gang’s new line-upCharlie Manning Walker (vocals), Will Goodey (guitar), Geoff Wilcox (bass) and Lee Munday (drums). Tickets for the show are nearly sold out but the remaining few can be snapped up here: https://myticket.co.uk/artists/chubby-and-the-gang

Chubby and the Gang released their acclaimed second album – The Mutt’s Nuts – last year via Partisan. The album was produced by Jonah Falco of Fucked Up (who returns behind the boards on A Christmas Extravaganza too), and was featured on year-end lists by Rough Trade and Kerrang! (“uncompromising Brit-punk anthems”). It’s since seen them support everyone from Turnstile to Jack White over the course of 2022, continuing to cement their reputation as one of the finest live bands on the planet.

The Mutt’s Nuts followed the band’s surprise 2020 critical hit, Speed Kills. Thanks to an unrelentingly fun concoction of hardcore, pub rock, doo wop, and blues, the album cemented them as leaders in a pack of new bands coming out of a new wave of British Hardcore. Alongside classic rock and roll themes of love and loss, their lyrics are rooted in worker’s rights, inequality, police brutality, government failure and gentrification – issues that are built into the fabric of the UK, and magnified in the English capital. Across both The Mutt’s Nuts and Speed Kills, Chubby and the Gang have earned a legion of fans and plaudits from publications ranging from Pitchfork to NMEThe Guardian to MOJO and beyond. Watch this space for more from them in the near future.
