The Chelsea Inn, October 30th 2021
The great & the good of the Bristol music scene packed into the small, but dripping in charm & character Chelsea Inn, Easton. For what many of us believed would be an emotional farewell to one of the best @beefywink.
What actually followed was an outright celebration of love, togetherness in a moment & knowledge that this is far from the end. More like a transition.
We arrived for the music marathon laid out by @facemelt.promotions in time to see @erotic_secrets_of_pompeii take the cramped floor space, acting as a stage. Like a scene from the film nuns on the run (you have to be of an age, but look it up, its a great film) the Bristol 5 piece ripped through their set. It was fun to see frontman Thom utilise the little space he had so well.
Next @shlugshlug set about making quite the impact. These boys know how to make some serious noise. So much so the equipment struggled to handle them, but dispute the sound & equipment issues they ploughed relentlessly onward & the crowd loved them for it.
@burnout_uk faced an ever swelling crowd & the trio delivered their mix of rock/punk with a splash of funk to perfection. Vocal duties & drumming giving an ultra cool vibe to a set which the crowd lapped up.
As the show crept ever closer to its headline act the main room was so tightly packed even lifting a beer to your lips was a challenge. The vibe though was so wonderfully good natured & playful. With many in attendance in full Halloween fancy dress.
Our final pre headliner were a duo we’ve seen a couple of times before in @peacelilyuk , but not post pandemic. I’d forgotten how bloody good this band is. Playing up to the crowd with intensity & at a pace that really started stirring the crowd into moshing mood.
Finally it was time..the reason the vast majority of the crowd were in attendance..the final ever gig from @beefywink.The atmosphere from the first chord to the last scream was electric. Rarely have I witnessed a crowd & band meld together in unison like I did last night. At times it was hard to see where the crowd ended & the band begin, the whole pub a sea of swirling bodies as BW belted out tune after tune with everything they had to offer. Pure joy, pure love & the most fitting send off ever
