Bristol Amphitheatre, July 27th
Thursday at Siren Bristol 2023… Makota, Dj Flight, Roni Size, Dynamite Mc, Gardna, David Rodigan & the cherry on the cake Fabio & Grooverider with The Outlook Orchestra headlining.
The crowd were in for a treat and the energy was pure and joyous. Bristol artist Gardna & Roni size got the crowd hyped before David Rodigan performed a signiture set of absolute bangers, i swear ive never seen this mans sets going down with anything less than an ecstatic response, the crowd were loving it.
The anticipation before Fabio & Grooverider was building beautifully. The crowd was a mixed bag, heads old and young sharing a common interest. There was plenty of room to skank out on the huge open dancefoor, the beers were cold and food vendours have you covered meat or vegan. For me this gig was a journey into the past when i was a pure dnb junkie. They played out anthem after anthem “I feel for you” & “streetlife” played out live, the crowd were peaking! The whole evening was special, a real intimate set on a festival stage. Mc GQ jumping around the stage like he was 15 years ago and i swear he hasnt aged, great to see everyone still enjoying their craft. Every song was a lit and followed by rapterous applause. @fabioandgrooverider would come from behind the decks occasionally between songs. “We started out getting £15 and we were happy with that” towards the end of the set Kele le Rock came out onto stage for a beautiful rendition of “take me away”.. que goosebumps. The set was backed throughout by the incredibly talented Outlook Orchestra wich gave the sound an extra edge, some of the basslines hit so sweet its really hard to describe…
I have dnb to thank for taking me away when I needed it and sometimes when i didn’t in my youth. This heart felt nostalgic night was here to remind the younger dnb fans in the crowd of the origins and legends in the scene with shoutouts from F&G to all the big names in Drum and Bass through the years. A really classy night put on by real top level performers. Hats off to @Sirenbristol for organising this gurt lush festival and big up all the ravers old and young. Peace and love
