Friday 16th August, Rough Trade Bristol
Our gig of the week this week see’s veritable folk music royalty come to town. As The Rails prepare to launch their brand new album “Cancel the sun” at Rough Trade on Friday.
The album is the third for husband and wife duo Kami Thompson (daughter of Richard and Linda) and James Walbourne (guitarist with The Pogues and The Pretenders) . Following on from their debut album ‘Fair Warning’ , which garnered 5/5 reviews in the music press and was voted the number one Folk Album for 2014 by Mojo. And 2017’s “Other People”.
The pair have also won the prestigious Horizon Award for best new artist at the BBC Radio Two Folk Awards.
However to pigeon hole The Rails as a purely a “folk” band would be a injustice as hints of Celtic, soul and blues all meld to bring about a thoroughly modern sound.
Clean vocals, jaw dropping guitar solos and a exposed, no tricks sound will bring a calming bliss to your ears.
As so often with album launches at Rough Trade, entry is free on Friday. With the option to pre purchase the new album on CD for £9.99. Or the LP for £14.99 and have them signed by the band following their performance.
Doors at 6, band on stage at 7, signing around 8.
See you there.
