Review – I Prevail

Bristol O2 Academy, 18th March

It finally happened, years of waiting for both band and fans already fading into memory like a passing train as you wait at the station.

Oh, but what memories we now have…

1500 voices crying out in unison “you prevail, we prevail… I PREVAIL!”

Appearing on stage at the O2 like rolling thunder, Brian Burkheiser & Eric Vanlerberghe receive the adulation of a vociferous crowd like gladiators stepping into the arena.

What happens next starts at controlled aggression and ends somewhere before absolute anarchy.

IP’s blend of metalcore, pop-punk, and post-hardcore rains fire n brimstone down on a sold out crowd. No longer 1500 individuals, but one single entity. A collective hive mind, singularly controlled at the whim of the bands energy and tempo.

“Body Bag”, “Self Destruction”, “Bad Things” and “Come & Get It” dropping on the crowd like incendiary devices.

The energy raw,  relentless. We drown amongst the continuing crashing waves of “Hurricane”, “DOA” and “Choke”.

The band occasionally stopping to cast an eye over the battlefield they have created. Mosh pits and circle pits seemingly taking on a life of their own.

Bodies held aloft and cast over the security barrier into the waiting arms of security. Its brutal, it’s beautiful.

We go off “The Deep End” and create new “Scars” as the finale approaches.

This was no ordinary gig, this was years of pent up frustration finally boiling over and being released.

The fuse lit when we entered the building. The “Gasoline” already pooling and waiting for the spark to ignite it.

And as the flames flickered around the broken, sweaty mass of bodies. The survivors “Bow Down” and its all hail to I Prevail 🔥

We needed this, thank you.
