In music, one song can change everything. Indie-pop trio Tors have been on the cusp of achieving a major breakthrough for some time now, but the phenomenal fan reaction to teasers for their new single ‘Anything Can Happen’ has reached another level. Clips of the trio performing the song with their sumptuous, organic vocal harmonies have received over 4 million views in just three videos, with social media sensation Elyse Meyers (8.5 million followers), Meghan Trainer, Melissa McCarthy and singer-songwriter Ber (‘Meant To Be’, ‘I’m Not In Love’) leading the names who have already praised the song. The single is accompanied by the release of their debut 6-track EP of the same title and shows that there’s still much more to come from Tors. ListenHERE.
The song’s opening words capture the instant emotional connection that ‘Anything Can Happen’ is making with fans both new and established. Drawn from personal experience, Matt Weedon’s lead vocals capture the overwhelming, slow sinking despair that depression casts onto the individual – the lethargy, the sleepless nights, the erosion of all joy. But soon punchy pop beats and swooping harmonies from bandmates Theo Weedon and Jack Bowden establish the defiant hope that those feelings are fleeing, that you can in time – whether it’s day-by-day or simply hour-by-hour – rise above the challenge. It’s a song that’s particularly powerful at this time of year, when the promise of summer and brighter days to come seem so far away.
Tors commented, “‘Anything Can Happen’ is probably the most important song we’ve released to date. It’s an honest stripping back of our ongoing experiences with depression and a hopeful reminder to celebrate the tiny victories on the long road to recovery.
Getting better isn’t a quick fix, one-and-done goal it’s an ever-evolving process we need to keep checking in on. This song is our way of saying, let’s celebrate being okay and embrace the time it takes to get there instead of feeling defeated by it.”
‘Anything Can Happen’ was written by Tors with Tobias Khun (Dylan, The Kooks), with production shared between Tors, Tobias Khun and Peter ‘Jem’ Seifert.
The ‘Anything Can Happen’ EP features previous singles ‘Colour In The Ordinary’, the romantic and nostalgic ‘Garden On The Kitchen Floor’, the acceptance of change in friendships ‘Lonely’ and the more recent stunning duet ‘I Don’t Miss You (Except For When I Do)’ featuring Lily Williams. Every song highlight Tors’ sumptuous three- part vocal harmonies talent and art for crafting songs which reflect the circumstances of twenty-something life, and despite the various struggles they always offer hope.
A big part of brothers Matt and Theo Weedon’s inspiration to form a band comes from the example set by their grandfather Bert Weedon OBE, whose ‘Play In A Day’ tutorial books inspired countless legendary names – John Lennon, Brian May, Eric Clapton and more – to learn the guitar. Drummer Jack Bowden subsequently completed the line-up. Since then, their own releases such as the ‘Wilder Days’ EP and co-writes with Declan J Donovan and Dean Lewis have led to 500 million+ streams as well as airplay at Radio 1 and Radio 2. They’ve also headlined the Scala, Omeara, St. Pancras Old Church and Abbie McCarthy’s Good Karma Club. and played shows with Tom Walker, John Newman, Picture This, X Ambassadors and Duncan Laurence. Their studio HQ is a converted barn in Devon, a world away from the rush of London, where they’ve put together over 600 song ideas for their upcoming releases.
Tors will take ‘Anything Can Happen’ to a huge audience when they join Sam Ryder’s extensive ‘There’s Nothing But Space, Man!’ UK headline tour in March. Very limited tickets remain for the tour, which runs as below:
