Review – Life in Mono

The Golden Lion, December 23rd 2022

Our final gig and review for ‘22 couldn’t be anyone but Life in Mono.

Establishing themselves as fixtures of the Bristol Alt-Rock scene over the past two years. As well as becoming firm Bristol Gig Guide favourites.

Their brand of dark emotional alt rock melody , punctuated with blistering riffs and bass from the darkest places,  reaches into your soul , grabs your heart and gently squeezes until you cant breath.

Weaponising words into daggers that leave open wounds. The Four piece conjure a beautifully bleak and suffocating atmosphere at the lion that takes our breath away. This is without doubt the best I have seen Life in Mono live. And with a short hiatus in the offing as vocalist Sarah spawns the groups default fifth member we are glad we didn’t miss this.

The back catalogue continues expanding and provides a strong ten song set. With “Forbidden Fruit” & “Madness” book ending a brooding leather bound spine of “The Cold”, “Smile For The Camera” &  “Sex to White Noise”.

Personal highlight for me was “Silk” which showcases all of the bands strengths as a whole. As well as letting the individual talents shine.

The depth this band has is only exceeded by the emotional chasm their sound can open in your soul.

Its visceral, raw and incredibly intoxicating to watch.

The band have had a very strong end to 2022. And we cant wait to see what they have in store next year.
