Today Low Girl announce their new EP, Uh-Oh, due out 6th Jan, and share its poignant title track. It’s the follow-up to the recent ‘Knees‘ single, which premiered on Steve Lamacq‘s BBC 6 Music show and features an infectious blend of guitar-driven rhythms and spacious melodic hooks. Today they’ve also announced a run of UK shows for February 2023 (dates below). Sarah Cosgrove says of the track: “Uh-Oh is a space for me to express my hurt and anger in a way that I haven’t really felt able to before. It’s really cathartic every time we get to play it, and I think that we’ve married the music and lyrics in a way that completely gets our intentions across. This is for everyone who feels like they were too polite in a situation where they should have been furious.”**TRIGGER WARNING**Cosgrove continues: “The concept for uh-oh began as I sat on a train home alone. I had been sexually assaulted on the same train line the year before, and found it difficult to confront this space every day on my commute. It made me think back to the first time I was assaulted as a teenager, and that betrayal of trust. I write from the perspective of the young girl I was, thinking why did you do that to me? And why do you get to go about your future relationships with ease while I continue to carry the pain? In the end, I focus on finding compassion for myself. Because of my resignation to these facts, I find it hard to know what to do with my anger and where to direct it. I hate to admit that I make excuses for these people – noting they didn’t mean to hurt me – a phrase that was said to me after the train assault. In the end, I have never found a place for my anger until writing this song. This is my place to express how much it hurt me.”The new EP follows the So Cool EP, which came out earlier this year to critical acclaim with support from DIY, The Line of Best Fit, BBC 6 Music, Radio X, and a playlist spot at BBC Radio 1 as their Introducing Track of The Week. Having previously supported the likes of Dream Wife, The Murder Capital and Pom Poko, this year saw the band appear at SXSW andThe Great Escape, embark on a Revive Live headline tour, and support October Drift on a 11-show tour across the UK. More about Low Girl: Low Girl is the work of multi-instrumentalist Sarah Cosgrove and her bandmates Toby Morgan, Tom Cosgrove and Bradley Taylor. Described by DIY as “a peppy new pop talent”, the band released their debut EP Big Now in May 2021 and haven’t looked back since. The EP was preceded by the release of the title track, which drew support from DIY, The Line of Best Fit, BBC Radio 1, Radio X and was playlisted on BBC 6 Music. The same year saw them sell-out a debut headline show at London’s The Lexington and appear at BBC Introducing Reading & Leeds, really cementing the live sound of a band coming of age. In January of this year, the band released their second EP So Cool. The title single was another irresistible piece of alt-pop, which drew Spotify support with a whopping seven editorial playlists including New Music Friday, Hot New Bands and Fresh Finds. It continued the themes found across her debut EP: feelings of loneliness, self-worth, mental health turbulence and the constant trials and struggles of finding one’s identity growing up. Stay tuned for more coming from Low Girl very soon. Low Girl – Uh-Oh // 06.01.23 |
