“An Air Conditioned Man” reverberates around the old factory, now music venue and five silhouettes can just be made out in the gloom.
The track changes, the lift shifts and the Melbourne indie rockers can finally been seen.
Touring the UK with highly acclaimed third album “Endless Rooms” the 5 piece set about giving the tightly packed fans exactly what they came for.
A particular pet peeve of mine is when an artist pretty much only plays their new material. Sure, you wanna get ears on the new material, but don’t neglect the fans that have been with you since day one.
RBCG struck the perfect balance here. Just over half the new album (mainly mid set) peppered with older favourites kept the crowd more than happy.
It was also a particularly treat to see @stelladonnelly able to join the band on stage for two songs. Including my favourite from the latest album “Bounce Off The Bottom”.
17 tracks including the single encore track felt like time simultaneously paused and went with the snap of your fingers at the same time.
RBCF possess a dream like quality to their jangly, indie guitar playing that sometimes mean you drift away from paying the lyrics as much attention as they deserve, don’t! There is a lot more under the hood of this band than one initially perceives.
The duelling vocal duties also work very well, especially in a live performance as the audience remain attentive throughout.
Watching from above the infectious riffs we’re doing there job as all you could see was a see of bobbing heads and gently swaying bodies. From a crowd that were humming the tunes from the evening as they left the venue. And most likely (if I’m anything to go by) still humming the next day.
