Review Twin AtlanticO2 Academy Bristol 18/5/22
The Scottish rockers of Twin Atlantic have been on the road, with their penultimate stop of the tour at Bristol’s 02 Academy for a 10 year anniversary show of their 2011 album ‘Free’ (tour was delayed due to the pandemic).
The setlist consisted heavily of the tracks from the decade old album much to the delight of the fans, opening with ‘Edit Me’ and ‘Time For You To Stand Up’, progressing into other fans favourites such as the title track of Free, this first part of the set really got the crowd moving for a Wednesday night. The bands performance and enthusiasm on stage made it hard not to want to sing along to everything in the best impression of a Glaswegian accent the crowd could muster. A Twin Atlantic song sung without trying to copy Sam McTrusty’s accent doesn’t sound right!
The second half of the set, the band could perform a wider range of their more recent songs from newer albums, such as ‘Bang On The Gong’, ‘Novocaine’ and ‘Hold On’. These newer tracks were welcomed by the crowd who continued to keep the energy up throughout the whole set as the band played out all their hits. The end of a 20 song set the band closed out the show with one of their biggest hits to date, ‘Heart and Soul’.
Its clear to see from this show in Bristol why Twin Atlantic have such a loyal fan base after all these years, reminiscing in the nostalgia of the 10 year old album while showcasing why they’re still one of the better bands in the UK’s alternative rock genre scene.
Twin Atlantic will be returning to the South West in July 2022 to play 2000 Trees festival.
