Bristol O2 Academy, 31st March 22
I’d been chomping at the bit to catch these guys since interviewing Butch right at the start of the first Lockdown.
The stars finally aligned at a busy Bristol O2 on Thursday night as the Anglo American, Post Punkers hit the stage in support of Killing Joke.
The purveyors of some of the best music videos you’ll ever see quickly prove they can easily match and exceed their recorded sound.
Butch Dante, Ben Rice, Charlie Culbert, John Kent & Joshua Lattanzi somehow manage to intrinsically combine old skool, anti establishment punk vibes with a modern messy, anarchic, riff driven sound that permeates the ears and lodges itself deep in the brain… yes that means I’m still catching myself singing the tunes two days later.
For me the two highlights and stand outs from the set were both taken from new album “Imbecilica” released last month. “It’s not about you” so radio friendly and modern. With the absolute diamond track “You’re gonna wanna” (that’s the track I’m still singing by the way) making for a memorable set.
The band are tight, the stage presence excellent and it’s easy to see why they’ve garnered so many positives reviews on this tour already. The Bristol crowd growing in size as the set developed and greeting the end of each tune with rapturous applause.
It was worth the wait guys
