We’d been waiting for indie pop rockers Pale Waves to wash up on the shores of Bristol for a while now. When they did arrive on Friday it felt more like a Tsunami. Drowning a sold out O2 with a relentless wave of anthems.
You genuinely forget just how many modern day classics PW already have in their back catalogue. There is something very fresh and retro all at the same time from this band. For the older people in the audience there are reminders of high school, preppy mall pop/rock like the early days of Paramore or Avril Lavigne. For the younger set it’s music that’s instantly relatable to the trials and tribulations they currently endure.
@heatherbarongracie is in every way the performer many bands dream of. A total natural on stage. With just the right elements of charm, swagger and like-ability to underpin the abundance of talent & drive.
The performance on Friday feels like we’ve been invited to watch the band just jam and have fun it’s so natural.
The set itself was pretty much everything a Pale Waves fan could have wanted. A 15 strong marathon with a 2 song encore.Stand out performances of “My Obsession”, “Eighteen” and a chance to see the live debut of “Jealousy” sent the crowd home with huge smiles.
Pale Waves have instantly set the bar for the rest of their tour with this opening performance. And we are already counting down the days until we get to see them in Bristol again.
