Review – Harpy, SWX Bristol, Dec 14th

Behold, as an ominous presence makes its entrance…

From the recesses of shadows and mist, a hand clutches the mic stand. Lengthy nails entwine the cable, and a countenance, pallid and adorned with blackened tears, materializes. The room transforms into a sea of crimson, resonating with the haunting echoes of a Harpy within the confines of SWX.

Here we find an artist who conjures forth a sublime and melancholic ambiance upon the stage. Like a sovereign ensnared in damnation, Harpy unfurls her arms, compelling the attention of the mesmerized throng.

Harpy, a maestro weaving elements of dark pop, industrial, and nu metal, becomes an enchanting spectacle. Her vocals, crystalline as a siren’s call leading towards treacherous reefs, resonate. Stalking the precipice of the stage, she entices the foremost rows to bear witness to the genesis of a novel shade of obscurity.

Verses steeped in wrath, anguish, and insubordination pierce akin to a dagger bathed in sanguine hues, penetrating hearts already shrouded in darkness.

The conveyed setlist feels freshly unearthed, penetrating the spirits of onlookers as if possessed by vindictive phantoms. Tracks such as “Medicine” and “Inside Out” stand out, casting an enchantment of black magic upon a congregation that gazes in reverential wonder.

Have we borne witness to the ascent of a new sovereign within the Gothic realm? Verily, it seems so. In the annum 2024, the reign of the Harpy may well dawn upon us.
